Wonders here, wonders there.
Wonder why they’re ev’rywhere.
Who can help but celebrate
the beauties of the earth?
(chorus)
I mean Who? Who? Who?
Who can help but celebrate?
Who can help but celebrate
the beau-ties of the earth?
Milkweed flow’r, purple rain
Monarch out my window pane
Backyard sanctuary
where I worship ev’ry day. (ch)
Twinkle twinkle little star.
How I wonder what you are.
Light above the world so high
From way way back in time.
Faces light faces dark
Faces smiling in the park
Face a new direction
and you find another friend. (ch)
Time to work, time to play,
time to thank God ev’ry day.
Take some time to go take in
the outdoors ev’ry day. (ch)

This song was written on commission for my home congregation, Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in south Minneapolis. It combines two key themes for that community: celebration and care of the earth. Located in the middle of a large metropolitan area, it’s important – and challenging–to find ways to live sustainably and be connected to the earth. We’re wrestling with this challenge as we move into the next 150 years.
When you sing it, note that everything comes in twos. Have the songleader sing each verse once alone, then all repeat. Likewise for the chorus. Enjoy those “Who”s!
