Shower Your Spirit
Bret Hesla © 2001
God whose love flows like a river
Shower your spirit upon us all.
God whose grace pours down like summer rain
Shower your spirit upon us all.
God whose justice pours like crashing thunder
Make your ever-presence known to us
Hear our prayer, O hear our prayer
Shower your spirit upon us all.
2. God of every rainbow color …
God of gay and God of straight and in-between …
God of babies smooth and elders wrinkled…
3. God who frees us from oppression …
God who frees us all from wrongful privilege…
God who frees us shackled by inaction…
4. God who calls us to live justly…
God inviting us lives of peace…
God who points us all to humble service…
5. God of laws inscribed in granite…
God who blows the winds of endless change…
God of messy hard-won compromises…
6. God of birth and new beginnings…
God of promises that never die…
Dear Companion on the paths we travel…
A call response song; an SATB celebration of the diversity within community.
Here’s on way to teach this gathering song without having to pass out any printed music. I teach the response parts in four steps, using a call/response style. First I sing, “Shower your spirit upon us all.” All repeat. Then “Make your ever-presence known to us –[clap, clap]”. All repeat. Third, “Hear our prayer when we call to you.” All repeat. Finally, I sing all three, from “Make your ever presence” to the end. Congregation sings it back. Next I explain the flow. Then start the song for real.
