Who Put That Turd in My Pocket?
I’ve got a tune that has no words.
I’ve got a ring that has no jewel.
I’ve got a longing for a life I’ll never have.
Who? Who?
Who put that turd in my pocket?
I’ve got a house without a home.
I’ve got a neighbor with no face.
I’ve got a place I wish was mine but ne’er will be.
Who? Who?
Who put that turd in my pocket?
I’ve got a storm that brings no green
I’ve got a list that won’t stop growin’
I’ve got a phone that disconnects me from my heart.
Who? Who?
Who put that turd in my pocket?
I’ve got a job without a wage
I’ve got a paycheck with no life
I’ve got this feeling I should make more of myself.
Who? Who?
Who put that turd in my pocket?

I meet monthly with a songwriter’s group. Sometimes we talk about our writing process. When songwriting, I usually start with the lyrics. Some of the others always develop the tune first. That seems completely backwards to me, but I decided to try it. Here’s what happened.
